2012年冬季 WOWOW SP 第4回WOWOWシナリオ大賞作品 売れない映画監督の橋本雄司（中村獅童）は、高校時代の親友・尾崎明生（萩原聖人）から手紙を受け取り、20年ぶりに帰郷。入院中の明生と再会し、明生が書いた脚本を映画にしてほしいと頼まれる。映画は「最高の父」というタイトルで、明生本人が主役になっていた。雄司は、明生の妻である麻由美（板谷由夏）とも再会。麻由美から、明生が余命わずかだと聞き衝撃を受ける。しかし、息子のために自分の姿を遺したいという明生の願いを知り、映画の撮影を決意する。
